In my 15+ years of working with voice over artists for various forms of media, I’ve come across few as complete as Simon. I’ve worked with him multiple times and always came away impressed. He’s got an actors- and a writers- background, so he’s able to grasp the situation from both angles. And thoroughly. When I booked him for the narration of a fairly difficult to read book, he picked up on all the subtleties and dove into the mind of the characters by analyzing them with a specific form of archetypization. This method was helpful not only to Simon for bringing the characters to life, but also to me in terms of directing. We went through the script together and discussed the mood and setting. When I had to make some last-minute-changes, I could bounce ideas off of Simon. You can see he’s well versed in writing screenplays. He made some pretty terrific suggestions himself, which are all in the script and recording now. Needless to say, Simon came into the recording well prepared. He’s quick, efficient, he’s honest and he’s got one of the finest timbres in the industry: deep and gravelly, yet with quite the range. He made the baddies sound menacing and sensible and sensual characters believable. It’s easy to go over the top with this. This never happened to Simon. Plus, he’s a really great conversationalist. Recording with Simon is as productive as it is humanly fulfilling.
